The general idea of discrete differential geometry is to find and investigate discrete models that exhibit properties and structures characterisitic of the corresponding smooth geometric objects. This is a challenging problem, since equivalent points of view in the smooth setting may lead to a number of inequivalent treatments in the discrete setting. We will illustrate the paradigm of structure-preserving discretizations on the example of conformal maps by showing how simple definitions lead to surprisingly rich theories.

Efficiency Assessment of Approximated Spatial Predictions for Large Datasets

Our suggested criteria are more useful for the determination of tuning parameters for sophisticated approximation methods of spatial model fitting. To illustrate this, we investigate the trade-off between the execution time, estimation accuracy, and prediction efficiency for the TLR method with intensive simulation studies and suggest proper settings of the TLR tuning parameters.

Florian Rist

Florian Rist is a Research Scientist at the Visual Computing Center (VCC) working with Professor Helmut Pottmann at KAUST. He is a founding member of the Center for Geometry and Computational Design at TU Vienna and currently holds a double affiliation as a research scientist at the Visual Computer Center at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology and as a senior scientist at the Institute of Arts and Design at TU Vienna.
